Water pump blank from material selection to manufacturing process and quality control

The quality of the water pump blank directly affects the performance of the final product, and strict control is required from the following aspects:

dimensional accuracy
Use a coordinate measuring instrument to detect key dimensions (such as pump body flow channel diameter, impeller inlet width) to ensure compliance with design requirements. For example, when producing gray cast iron parts in batches, a second level precision is taken with a margin of 4.0~5.0mm.
Internal defect detection
Use X-ray or ultrasonic testing to detect defects such as pores, sand holes, and cracks. For example, defects in blade casting need to be inspected by dye penetrant testing to ensure non-destructive quality.
SURFACE QUALITY
Check the surface roughness and oxide layer thickness of the blank to avoid affecting subsequent processing. For example, the surface smoothness of precision casting blanks needs to reach Ra3.2 μ m or above.
Metallographic structure and mechanical properties
By analyzing the grain size and hardness distribution of the material through slicing, ensure that the mechanical properties meet the standards. For example, martensitic stainless steel pump shafts need to be quenched to achieve a hardness of 58-63HRC.
